About 3 p.m., the Basile Mardi
Gras assemble a couple of blocks to the east of the bandstand in downtown Basile where
everyone is gathered. In 2000, at about 3:15 they paraded on foot to the street
dance, where they danced, cut up, and also sang the Basile Mardi Gras Song. It's Mardi Gras on a smaller scale than the celebrations in some other towns,
but it's every bit as colorful and exciting.
